Captain Allen Sutton is relaxed, but ever aware of other boat traffic on the James River. On December 3, 2015, a Daily Press reporter and photographer took a ride with current tugboat operators at Newport News Shipbuilding to reflect on the 125th anniversary of the launching of tugboat Dorothy, which was Dec. 18th. — Captain Allen Sutton pilots the tug Huntington into the James River, admiring the view from the pilot house, moving past the massive hull of the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford. “It’s a lot of responsibility, but you can see what you’ve done,” Sutton said. “It’s rewarding.” Tugboat Dorothy was christened 125 years ago this month. For more photos, click here.
