DP Monitor Turret
Conservator Elsa Vanguard works inside the turret of the USS Monitor on Wednesday May 4, 2016 as conservators removed an anode system to prepare the historic Civil War turret for a two-month-long conservation and archaeology campaign. Conservators hope to remove the metal nut-guard shields lining the interior of the turret, excavate for hidden artifacts and then remove concreted deposits before filling the turret again for an extended period of treatment.
